UK MAINLINE - REAL LIFE RAILWAYS

It can sometimes be too easy to concentrate on narrow gauge operations when covering the best that the UK has to offer in terms of real-life railways. This is an attemot to redress the balance with examples of UK Mainline Railway practice over the years.

I could not resist featuring this video I came across quite by chance on YouTube. It is a compilation of the "Best of British Steam 2013" filmed by Ruairidh MacVeigh and certainly lives up to it's title.

You will need to set aside 45 minutes to view the entire footage but well worth the effort. This descriptive text is provide by the author:

It's hard to believe that another year has simply rolled by, but in that time it's been a fantastic ride in terms of steam tours. 2013 has seen the return of many a great locomotive, such as the return of 34046 'Braunton' to the mainline, and the return of 45699 'Galatea' to steam altogether!

So here I give you my collection of some of the finest examples of steam to grace the British Rail network, seen in locations that vary from the peaceful preserved lines of Devon and Cornwall, to the snow covered slopes of the Cumbrian Lake District, to the sunny seaside resorts of the Teignmouth Sea Wall.

This video features all kinds of steam engines from all of the great operators of yesteryear, including 5029 'Nunney Castle', 34067 'Tangmere', 7827 'Lydham Manor', 70000 'Britannia' and her sister 70013 'Oliver Cromwell', 60009 'Union of South Africa', 35028 'Clan Line', 46115 'Scots Guardsman', 61994 'The Great Marquess' and many many more!

In the next 45 minutes there's going to be steam, smoke, whistles, wheel-slips, breakneck speed, hissing safety valves, raw power and pollution, snarling pistons, flying driving rods and general fun for the whole family!

So, let's get cracking!

Enjoy!

This is another superb compilation produced by Marsh Steam Videos Productions covering an amazing number of venues and preserved steam locomotive trips which took place during 2013. Looks as though it was a bumper year for such steam events and long may they continue.

Another successful year of preserved running for myself has come to a close. And once again I have made a review of my favorite scenes taken from heritage railways up and down the country from 2013. This year saw many highlights on the preserved scene, with the likes of the Blue King returning at Great Central Railway and the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railways Cotswold Steam Celebration gala, which was in aid of the railway overcoming two major embankment collapse disasters, And also East Lancashire's re run of the Fifteen Guinea Special' of August 11th 1968 with Britannia Pacific No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell. The review also captures footage taken from the Severn Valley Railway, Great Central Railway, East Lancashire Railway and Llangollen Railway.

This video is dedicated to all the volunteers which help to run and operate our preserved railways. And this video would not be possible without their continued help and dedication which help keeps these working museum's in constant running order.
Hope you enjoy the video.
